MYRATH (English meaning “LEGACY”) is a Metal band from Tunisia, in just a few years what started out as a teenage cover band has grown into one of the worldís major contenders in PowerProg Metal and gained much respect by the international prog-power international community. In March 24th 2006 when the band opened for ROBERT PLANT and ADAGIO in Carthage Amphitheater (Tunisia) in front of nearly 7000 Rock/metal fans. Also known to have played festivals METAL ROCK FESTIVAL (Norway) and PROGPOWER-EU (Netherlands).

Well it seems like 2010 is the year for alternative metal bands, here we have native Tunisian band ”Myrath” and their most recent release “Desert Call”. This is a very different album in all aspects. It is nothing short of amazing. Not too heavy, but yet not too soft. All around a great listen. I will admit the progressive/metal thing does throw you off a bit. The album goes from fast to soft to heavy to slow and back and forth randomly. But it is so well composed, there are no “one-liner” tracks in here. So many transitions and elements in here. The album sets its own pace, turns it around and comes spinning back at you almost twice as fast. I’m honestly surprised normally the keyboard in any progressive band is kind of a “backing track”, but quite often it is right there just as much as the guitar which is a huge thumbs up in my opinion. Very different but it works out so well in each song when it appears. For the guitar and bass tracks, surpassing the stereotyped rhythms, one riff songs, in this album you just donít know what to expect until after it has hit. This album consists of a lot of heavily distorted and acoustic effects, which is just perfect in relation to each song in which they appear. The bass tracks are heavy and high, where need be, just as imaginative as the guitar lines in multiple sections of the album. I honestly love the drums, so active and constantly moving setting the time and changing for each part with the greatest of ease. But personally what i think will sell this album the most is the haunting vocals, the clarity and meaningfulness behind each word is what will carry this album to its overall harmony. Truly perfect. This is a band I think that could be recorded on a cassette recorder and continue to kick ass regardless of how bad the recording. But no worries, this was well packaged and composed. The mixing, mastering, and volume levels are just mind blowing in the overall finished product. Definitely a top ten pick up, no matter what genre you prefer. Just great.

A couple key points I’d like to mention. Or at least things I found of interest on this album. The track ”Madness” has to be the best song on this album in my opinion, the buildup is simply amazing. With the backing vocals almost gives it this “Old World” feeling. Just wow, what a great job with that. Overall great song. And the track “No Turning Back”, just so well composed, I’m left only speechless. ”Forever And A Day”, what a great way to start an album, it sets the pace and expectations for the album so well. The combination of instruments and vocals sets the standards for the album, which just completely surpasses everything I was expecting.

So to sum it all up, a great album for a variety of reasons. Such a nice break from the same old boring radio based crap you are probably fed at home. If you buy this album, don’t expect it to come out of your CD player anytime soon. Great songs, great production value, no complaints whatsoever. A fine job to the Tunisian band “Myrath”, I hope the rest of the genre is paying attention, this will go far. Keep up the good work and I will be waiting with anticipation for your next release.
